An interesting explanation of the success in the American ring of the New Zealand boxer, Tom Heeney, and the failure of the Australian, Billy Grime, to establish himself in a prominent position is given by Jack Pilkington, the New York light-weight boxer, who recently returned from Australia. He says Australian boxers do not get much experience owing to the lack of boxing matches. Australian boxers were clever, but not half so rugged as the Americans. They could not stand up against the hard-hitting, rough American boxers.
