CITY VALUATION
INCREASE OF 140 PER CENT. CHANGE IN 15 YEARS The rateable value of the original City of Auckland, that prior to the era of amalgamation, has in* creased 140 per cent, since 1913. IN 1913 the rateable value was £679,369. This year the valuation is £1,632,795. The rateable valuation covering the whole of the' present city, excepting Orakei and Tamaki, is £2,464,079, made up as follows: Remuera, £258,018; Grey Lynn, £153,561; Epsom, £128,476; Parnell, £92,404; Avondale, £82,955; Point Chevalier, £53,948: Eden Terrace, £32,249; Arclihill, £29,673; City, half-mile radius, £813,567; balance of city, £819,228. The total value, compared with last year, shows an increase of £201,869, made up of £82,955, resulting on the inclusion of Avondale, and £118,914 by new buildings and subdivisions. In 1912-13, when there were 1,948 acres in the city, the vaue an acre was £389. This was heavily reduced by the amalgamations, of Parnell, Archhill, Remuera, Eden Terrace and Epsom, which brought the acreage in 1920 to 7,307, with a value to the acre of £155. Grey Lynn and Point Chevalier added 2,120 acres in 1921-22, and the valuation then was £l5B to the acre. Six years later, for the 1927-28 year, Six years later, for the 1927-28 year, the area was 9,427 acres, and the valuation had reached £240. The inclusion of Avondale brought the total to 13,127 acres, and the average value fell to £lB7. The inclusion of Orakei and Tamaki, bringing the acreage to 18,760, will materially reduce this average for next year.
