TAMERLANE’S, POSITION TROTTER WILL COMPETE When the handicaps for the Taranaki Cup were first published Tamerlane appeared on 72yds, 4.39 mark, and owner Bussell wired scratching the horse on the grounds of being wrongly handicapped. Later Tamerlane’s name appeared in the list of on 60yds, which was naturally for the public. • Abaydos” got in touch with Secretary Morgan at New Plymouth and to-day received the following explanatory reply: “Tamerlane on 60yds in Cup and accepted. Mistake in papers omitting 60yds after Ricardo and Tamerlane. ' So Tamerlane will start to-morrow off a 4.40 mark and as he finished close up fourth at Hawera on Monday going a shade better than 4.38, the trotter should have a good chance of lifting the stake.
