Speed Kings will Meet To-Morrow

FINAL DAY AT ADDINGTON QUALITY AND QUANTITY' The second day’s programme of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter carnival, postponed from Wednesday on ac- | count of unsuitable weather coni ditions, will be submitted to-mor-i row at Addington. Large fields will be the order of the day and the racing promises to be as interesting as that witnessed on Saturday last. a few exceptions the fields are much the same as on the-opening: day, when some fine finishes were witnessed. With first day’s form fresh in their memory, the public will have some assistance in solving - the problems ’ set by handicapper Brinkman. Nevertheless winners are well concealed and it will not occasion surprise fo see some of the outsiders turn up trumps. The principal event on the card, and one that has drawn a fine field, inclusive of some of the best twomilers in the land, is the. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP Of £1,000; 2 miles. 4.29 limit. Roi Cole . . . Lt Black Admiral 3G Padlock .... Lt Queen’s Own . 36 yds bhd Loganwood . . 30 Peterwali . . . Dalnahine . . . 4S Author Jinks . 12' Waitaki Girl . 43 Talaro .... 24 Prince Taurekareka . 24 Pointer .... GO Machine Gun . 36 Jack Potts . . 72 Right in the front is that good, consistent performer, Padlock, whose prowess is well known to Auckland followers of the sport, and perhaps after to-morrow Southerners may also know something about his ability. Speedy off the mark, he is one of the hardest horses to top off when on the front of a handicap, and the Longburn trained gelding will give the opposition something to do on this occasion. With the going to his liking, Peterwali will have a royal chance, while Author Jinks is always one to be reckoned with. Talaro is coming back, but the great dash of .Taurekareka last week will keep him onside

with speculators. Machine Gun is racing with wonderful consistency, and is sure to he knocking again. Soft going, if procurable, will delight the heart of Waitaki Girl, and Dalnahine will be at home under similar conditions. Jack Potts made a fine showing on Saturday and the race will do him good. When the public finish with the machine the order will probably be PADLOCK, TAUREKAREKA, MACHINE GUN. The other leg with which the programme will conclude is the HIGH-CLASS HANDICAP Of £ 400; li miles. 2.45 limit. yds blid Queen’s Own . 24 Talaro 12 Author Jinks 24 Fight Ever . . 12 Sea Pearl . . 24 Black Admiral 12 Loganwood . . 24 St. Maura . . 12 Great Hope . . 26 Logan Park . . 12 Acron 36 Logan Chief . 24 Prince Pointer 36 Golden Devon 24 Jack Potts . . 36 There is nothing on the 2.45 peg, but on the 2.44 line is a useful and speedy trio in Black Admiral, St. Maura and Logan Park that will attract the attention of backers. St. Maura ran a disappointing race on Saturday, but the form was too bad to be correct. Logan Chief, having effected a comeback, should go on with the business, and will make things interesting again. Loganwood is a great horse over any distance, while Author Jinks is probably one of the speediest in the country, and despite his failure last weekend, will give a lot of cheek in this event. There is a wealth of speed bottled up among the quartette on the 2.42 mark, but they will find it a difficult task to head off some of those in front. When the “tote”-adjustment is made it may read AUTHOR JINKS, LOGAN PARK and BLACK ADMIRAL. HARVEST HANDICAP A good field of trotters will meet in this event, Nelson Boy and Sea Queen being the pick of those near the end. Sarsaparilla and Swiftbine are handy, and • Kempton, a winner on the first day, has a chance of pulling off the double. Further back Audobell, Nourmahal and Real the Great appeal most, but NELSON BOY and SWIFTBINE may receive most support. OXFORD HANDICAP Some speed merchants are engaged in this race, which is staged for those who prefer the weight on top. Off the front is Native Queen and Dalmeny, and the former will prove troublesome, but Pan Yan just behind looks a likely sort. Jean McElwyn and Loghn Chief should do best of those further back. PAN YAN and LOGAN CHIEF may be most fancied. HALSWELL HANDICAP Jean McElwyn, Rey Logan, and Jackie Audubon are nicely placed near the front, with the consistent Avenger just behind them- William the Great is on a handy mark. Recent form points to Colene Pointer being hard to keep out of it, and Young Blake is sure to put up a good trot. COLENE POINTER and AVENGER will command a lot of attention on the machine. Welcome handicap This is an event for three-year-olds, and there are some promising juveniles engaged. Prince Chirpes and Rey Child are good sorts off the front, and Writer, Baron Bingen. Great Triumph Free Advice and Sonoma Star have form to recommend them. The public mav prefer GREAT TRIUMPH and FREE ADVICE. APRIL HANDICAP This is the largest field of the day and backers are set a stiff task. Mate o’ Mine is on the end and will have plenty of pals, Sadie Huon and Locanda Boy are just 12yds away. On the next line is Harvest Child, who is coming right, and Meb, who broke up badly when looking a winner last week-end. Those further back are set a stiff task, and the final machine adjustment may point to SADIE HUON and HARVEST CHILD. SUMMER HANDICAP This is an event for classy squaregaiters, and some good ones are engaged. Audobell will go well off the front, and Cannonball, who secured -the thick end on Saturday, will be in the firing line again. Native Star, although out of a place on that occasion, trotted a fine race, and will be there when the post is reached- Peter Swift is in great form and will play a big part, but the favourites may be NATIVE STAR and CANNONBALL. Manawatu Acceptances The Manawatu Racing Club will hold its autumn meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. April IS and 19. Acceptances for all events to be run ; on the first day close to-day (.Friday), i a* 9 p.m.

St. Maura’s showing in the Flying Handicap at Addington was a long way below her best form. She had been working very well in training and should have been much nearer the winner, in spite of a slow start. A number of pacers found the track very troublesome. It was slippery and afforded insufficient footing for long-striding pacers. This | probably accounted for St. i Maura’s indifferent display. If I the footing is more solid to-mor-row the mare should make amends.
