Great South Road Gaps Being Filled
HAIN HIGHWAY BRIDGES
. MANUREWA AND WIRI As the Manurewa Town Board would hot agree to the allocation of the cost of widening and straightening the overhead railway bridge on the Great South Road, the work carried out by the Railway Department was suspended. Originally Manurewa had to find £2OO toward the cost of the work. After the work had been in operation for a time, the Main Highways Board advised that the town board’s portion was to be £3OO. This the board would not agree to, but finally gave way. A fresh start has now been made, and when completed the bridge will be wider and in a more direct line with the road. It is the intention of the Town Board to commence the concreting of the northern and southern approaches to the bridge at an early date, and this will be completed to conform with the bridge. Good progress is being made with the northern approach to the Wiri Bridge on the Great South Road. Th*e bags were removed yesterday, and the work ot bitumen sealing the joints in the concrete is proceeding, with the forming of the shoulders on the unopened side of the road. The full width of the road will be open for traffic on Saturday morning. ! This is the last gap to be filled in the long eorferete strip in the Manukau County area.
