DIOMEDE FOR ENGLAND
WARSHIP TO REFIT LEAVES AUCKLAND MAY 19 H.M.S. Diomede lelt Auckland at five o'clock last evening for Wellington. The warship will return again early next month, and after docking at Devonport will leave New Zealand on May 19 for England, via Tahiti, Panama and Kingston, Jamaica. Due at Portsmouth on July 16, the Diomede will undergo refitting, which is expected to occupy from six to eight weeks. Extensive changes in pex-sonnel will include all the officers with the exception of Captain L. V. Well's, D. 5.0., A.D.C., Surgeon-Commander A. H. ■Toy, M. 8., and the captain’s secretary, Paymaster-Dieutenant E. F. B. George. The cruiser will take to England a number of New Zealand ratings from the Dunedin and the Philomel, who are due to undergo torpedo and gunnery courses at Home, and the complement will also include all the Imperial ratings whose term of service on the New Zealand station is due to expire shortlj'. H.M.S. Diomede is due back in New Zealand about the end of this year.
