War on Missionaries
LOOTING AND DESTRUCTION Christian General s Ravages FAR from living' up to his reputation as a “Christian General,” Feng-Yu-Hsiang, has been responsible for wholesale looting and destruction of mission property in the Chinese province of Honan. By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright.
Reed. 12.15 p.m. SHANGHAI, Tues. gPECIAL inquiries regarding missionary reports of looting and destruction of mission property on an extensive scale by troops of the socalled Christian general, Feng-yu-hsiang, in the Honan Province, reveal damage of vast proportions. Refugee Canadian missionaries have fled before the advance of Feng’s troops, who committed wanton acts of destruction and vandalism, looting all
the missionary properly in Northern Honan. All except one mission fell into the hands of General Peng’s troops, who completely demolished even the hospitals, where their wounded were previously succoured, and destroyed the contents. They looted most of the houses and buildings and stripped them of their flooring and roofs. A letter of protest sent to General Feng by his former missionary friends has been ignored.—A. and N.Z.
