BUTTER AND CHEESE
LONDON MARKET QUIET The London butter market continues quiet with spot stocks slightly higher than at this time last year. The market for cheese is also quiet, but dealers anticipate a revival of activity in both markets within the next week or so. Under date April 5, the London Office of the Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., cabled as follows: Butter.—Our prices are unchanged. Market closing firmer at 168 s to 170 s, with more interest. Anticipate a renewal of activity after the holidays. Danish, 190 s on the spot, 178 s f.o.b. Estimated stocks in public stores, April. 4, 11,100 tons of all butters, compared with 10,500 tons last year. Stocks of New Zealand, 6,500 tons, compared with 8,500 tons last year. Week’s deliveries, 990 tons. Cheese.—96s to 9Ss; market very quiet. Estimated stocks in United Kingdom on April 2: New Zealand and Australian, 101.800 crates; Canadian and States, 17,900 boxes, compared with 144,250 crates and 36.800 boxes last year.
