MILES OF MOVIES

N.Z.’S IMPORTATIONS

In the April number of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce Journal appears a list of the importations of motion-picture film into New Zealand for the year 1927. The total number of lineal feet from all countries is given as 13,621,907, and the value at £243,972. America predominates with 90 per cent, of the total. Mr. J. Robertson, secretary of the New Zealand Film Exhibitors' Alliance, who arrived from Wellington this morning, states that there must be some misapprehension and that apparently the figures given represent those for two years—l 926 and 1927. During 1926, he said, over 6,000,000 lineal feet of film were imported and for some years before that the total figure remained in the vicinity of 6,000,000. He says that it is highly improbable that the amount could have .doubled in one year.
