FOR OLYMPIC GAMES
RAISING OF FUNDS FOR ROWING EIGHT £I,OOO WANTED FROM AUCKLAND Although it has collected its share of the money necessary to send to Amsterdam the original nominees to represent the I>ominio | at the Olympic Games, the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Olympic Association is still working harcf and is attempting to gather another £I,OOO to complete its quota of the fund to send away a rowing eight. In its big drive to raise this money the association has arranged with Mr. H. Amos, chairman of the New Zealand Olympic Association, to deliver an address on “New Zealand’s Representation at the Olympic Games, to be held at Amsterdam this year,” on Wednesday evening next, at eight o’clock, in the Unity Hall. Mr. Amos is making a special trip from Wellington to attend this meeting, and it is expected That all sportsmen and those interested will make a special attempt to be present.
The Auckland branch of the association holds that every possible step should be taken to send a rowing eight away, for since the war teams representative of the Dominion have carried everything before them. In recent years, two or three clubs in New Zealand have sent a team to Australia, and all these, although representative of one particular club, and not the whole of the Dominion, have gone through undefeated. Thus it is held that a rowing eight from the Dominion has the best chance of gaining victories at the biggest gathering of champion athletes in the world.
