BUTTER-FAT PRODUCTION

SEASON’S SOUND POSITION Despite the fact that the district passed through one of the worst periods of drought experienced for many years, production of butter-fat for the province to date, this season, is still ahead of that for last year. Production this season up to April 5 is estimated by the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company at 86,829,674 lb, compared with 86,510,0001 b for the corresponding period of last year. Thus, considering the improved state of the market over the period, farmers should balance up at the end of the year with aggregate returns showing a decided advance on the previous year’s operations. During the past fortnight 69,080 boxes of butter and 5,326 crates of cheese were received into Auckland grade stores, compared with 53,978 boxes of butter and 5.683 crates of cheese for the corresponding period of last year.
