BANKING OPERATIONS
WEEKLY RETURNS WANTED (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON, To-day. From Monday next the banks operating in New Zealand will be required to furnish a weekly return to the Government Statistician indicating bank debits (being total amounts debited to customers’ .accounts at all branches during week); bank clearings (being the total outward exchanges delivered at all branches during week); advances as at the end of the week; notes and bills counted and debts due to the bank (exclusive of debts abandoned as bad deposits as at end of the week); Government deposits not bearing interest and bearing interest; metal reserves as at end of the , week gold, silver and other metal coins and gold and silver in bullion or bars); legal tender notes as at the end of the week (banks own legal tender notes in circulation and legal tender notes of other banks held). The bank discount rate and bank interest overdraft rate is also to be shown.
