The second day of the Auckland Racing Club's autumn meeting was held at Ellerslie to-day when Milady appeared again in a bewildering array of new colours and styles.
Black and blue and brown, with splashes of lively colour, were everywhere in evidence, and there was a decided stressing of the vogue for velvet and chenille suits and frocks and coats. Silks interpreted the colour trend ol fashion in printed patterns, whose designs were taken from autumn’s own gay flowers, while here and there the glint of beading and metal embroidery added a spaxk of arresting newness. Tailored suits were as popular as ever, and coats were beautiful in their variety. Among those present were: Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson was present, wearing a dainty pleated frock of ivory georgette, with ribbon bandings under a black crepe de chine coat patterned in rose and gold. Her hat of black crinoline straw was trimmed with flat flowers to tone. Mrs. Hunter Blair was in her Excellency’s party, and wore a red and ivory spotted frock of black crepe de cbine, under a black crepe faille coat, with narrow collar of fur, and a black hat. Miss Dugdale, who also accompanied the vice-Regal party, wore a closely patterned frock of powder blue and black crepe de chine, and a black hat. Lady Lockhart, parma violet frock of georgette, with loose panels, and deep violet hat. Lady Nolan, ensemble of black satin faconne, with pearl grey relief, and black and grey hat. Mrs. Chalmers, deep maroon ensemble of repp, with small felt hat to tone. Mrs. Roy Wilson, tucked frock of navy blue georgette, with rose relief, and navy hat banded with rose. Miss Wylde-Browne, periwinkle blue jumper suit, with checked skirt, and deep blue hat. Mrs. C. G. Macindoe, petunia frock of crepe de chine, under navy blue coat, and small feathered hat to tone. Mrs. T. H. Lowry (Hawke’s Bay), floral frock of crepe de chine, under black georgette coat, black hat with flower trimming. Mrs. R. Masefield, frock of crepe satin navy blue, with navy hat banded with lizard. Mrs. W. F. Boyle, janonica frock of crepe marocain, with amber-tinted hat and furs. Mrs. Buttle, navy blue pleated crepe de chine frock, and navy visca straw hat. Mi's. Shepherd Allen, beige and black printed chiffon frock, and bktek hat, with lace brim. Mrs. H. R. Bloomfield, Spanish raisin frock of crepe de chine, under coat to tone, with ribbon trimming, and velvet trimmed hat. Miss Marjorie Vaile, leaf-green jumper suit of chenille jersey cloth, and hat to tone. . , . Mrs. Wills McLachclan, honey beige ensemble of crepella, and hat of matching Miss Fraser, navy blue tailored suit, and hat of pillar box red felt. Mrs. Elliott, navy blue tailleur, with black braiding and black hat.. Miss Daphne Rainger, ciel blue jumper suit of tricolette and ring velvet and pink hat. . , _ Mrs. Stuart Garland, navy blue sedan cloth suit, white fox furs and navy hat. Miss Jean Macindoe, reseda green frock, with deep heather-toned band and small green hat. Mrs. Bankhart, powder blue threepiece suit of frisca and georgette and navy hat. Mrs. H. Pliilcox, flowered chiffon frock in dark blue tones and hat to match. Miss M. Jackson, russe’ - toned suit of tweeds, with -felt hat to match. Miss V. Jackson, navy blue tailleur of repp cloth and fawn hat. Mrs. Mervyn Reed, black crepe de chine frock, with deep applique bands of blue and white and hat to tone. Mrs. J. Carpenter, beech-brown coat of silk embossed frisca and hat to tone. Mrs.'McMillan Bull, autumn brown ring velvet coat, collared and cuffed with dyed lamb's wool, and small brown velour hat. . , . Mrs. M. M. Louisson, black crepe fanle ensemble, golden fox furs and black bat. Miss Bruce Hay, coronation red frock and coat of repp, with fur trimming, and grey felt hat. , Mrs. Lawford, embossed gown of black ring velvet and black hat. Bailey, navy blue and fawn georgette frock, sable furs and navy hat. Miss Duder, rose and black-patterned crepe de chine frock and hat to match. Mrs. Hodgson, black georgette ensemble bordered with chenille and black hat. Mrs. Nat Madison, black satin crepe frock, with scarf and godets of rose-pink georgette, and black hat. Mrs. Coleman, navy blue georgette frock and navy hat banded with velvet. Miss Ruby Coleman, beige mar oca in coat and frock and small black velvet hat. Mrs. Sommers, ash grey tailored suit of tweeds and navy hat banded with Oriental shades. Mrs. Leys, wineberry fringed frock of crepe de chine, black satin coat and wine hat. Mrs. F. Waller, honey-eolonred ensemble of crepe faille and black velvet hat. Mrs. Bickerton Fisher, taupe-coloured three jersey suit, banded with blue and small blue hat. Mrs. W. Lloyd, lotus rose lace and georgette and Delft blue hat. Mrs. Tole, black crepe de chine and marocain ensemble, and black velevt hat. Miss Tole, geranium red pleated frock, with stone marten furs, and black hat. Miss A. Walker, prunelle tailleur of fisca and fawn, hat of velvet and felt.
