Autumn's Fashion Secrets Told ill a Racy Way

The Style Forecast

v The opening of the Auckland Racing '•Clubs meeting at beautiful Ellersiie to-day found Autumn in her most colourful mood, whispering in vivacious way of all the bright new clothes sh planned for the coming months. The scene on the lawns reminded one of a great ballet. The main theme of the mode is femininity itself. This season Milady has not marched out to the races with the bold assurance of a man, as she did in recent seasons, clad in stern tailored modes. Nor does she in her numbers look monotonously alike. Rather she sweeps into sight, a graciously feminine person wearing lovely ensembles, softlyfurred coats and hats of flattering line and colour, and around her all her friends reflect the charming fancies of Autumntime. The ensemble is all important, and it includes a dress, subtly draped, rich in material and colour, worn beneath a full-length coat wrapping to the side, collared and cuffed and banded with fur. A particularly charming toilette was of pearl-grey cloth, with sylph-like lines, with collars and cuffs and a long band from neck to hem of fur dyed to exactly match the cloth. With it was worn a close-fitting hat of matching shade with a flat feather mount and one of the new, so coquettish eyeveils ornamented with large spots. Hats were mostly close-fitting of supple felt and only lightly trimmed. Shoes were among the high-lights of the day, and presented many new and charming features in their slender contours and their intriguing modern contrasts of softly rich materials. And accessories took their usual high place for the mode is mainly made of little things, carefully assembled with a nice eye to the complete ensemble.
