THE TRANSPORT INQUIRY
Sir, — May I be permitted to congratulate the authorities responsible for the appointment of the Tr/nsiVrt Commission of Inquiry? It is to be noted with keen appreciation that they have not fallen into the error of engaging the services of that London expert, “Mr. Gunter,” whose knowledge of transport, as well as the art of fooling the simple, made so deep an impression on local transport experts. The personnel of the new commission seems a.ll right, but when did Mr. Goodman become a tramway traffic expert? In Dunedin years ago he was recognised as a first-class electrical tramway engmeer, but nobody there ever looked to him for guidance about traffic. And the tramways pay handsomely in Dunedin, and make progress without the necessity of a commission of inquiry. RATEPAYER.
