’ AUSTRALIAN OPINIONS From well-known cricket followers who were present at the Melbourne Cricket Club’s ground on a recent occasion opinions were sought as to wlVo were the seven greatest batsmen the world has produced. Some answers to the query were as follow: A famous international, who did not wish his name mentioned, made the following selections, not necessarily in order of merit: W. G. Grace, V. Trumper, Clem Hill, J. B. Hobbs, A. C. Maclaren, A, Shrewsbury and W. H. Ponsford. Mr. 11. Bushby, former chairman of the Board of Control, who saw the last Test series in England, limits his selection to the players he has seen in - action. His list is: Hill, Darling, Trumper, Hobbs, Macartney, Sutcliffe (in test matches), and Ponsford. Joe Travers, the old South AustraI lian batsman. who once played for . j Australia, said: Ponsford.
