KOWHAI JUSTIFIED
REPORT ON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL “I am strongly of opinion that the pupils at Kowhai Junior High School are receiving a much better education than they would have obtained had they remained at the contributing schools.” This is the answer of Senior Inspector C. W. Garrard, to the inquiry from the Mount Eden School Committee about “what advantage accrued tc pupils who went to the Kowhai Junioi High School.” The chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. A. Burns, thankee the inspector for the report yesterday Mount Eden, he continued, was quite within its rights in asking for the information and he hoped that it was satisfactory. Mr. Garrard outlined the advantages of the junior high school, saying tha' in Grade 7 (or standard V.) a beginning was made In secondary education algebra, geometry and a language being taught at the natural ant phychological age for the beginning of that instruction. For the pupil wh< would go to a secondary school it gave a sound basis, and for the pupil wh< would leave school after Kowhai, i provided a wider and more libera course of education. At the end of thi first year the headmaster after consul tation with parents, arranged th' pupils in classes suited to their menta ability, and provided differentiate! courses of instruction, so that p. rticu lar talent-- v.~er>> devr-i.
