FIRES IN WELLINGTON
OIL OUTBREAK SUPPRESSED TAILORS’ STOCKS DAMAGED Press Association. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Severe damage by fire and water was done to the Shell Motor Spirit Company’s oil stores and contents on the Hutt Road last evening. r The brigade got control and suppressed the fire after an hour’s work. Later the brigade was called to a three-floored building at the corner of Marion and Ghuznee Streets. Here j the stock of Henry Resnick, a tailor, j on the second floor, was severely dam- | aged and that of Joseph Zimme on the } top floor The Hereford Printing Com- ! pany on the ground floor suffered damage by water. The building is owned by Phillip Hereford and was insured for £5,000 in the Mercantile and General office. Resnick’s stock was covered to the extent of £BOO in the 1.0. A. and Zimme’s for £ 300 in the Southern Union. Hereford’s stock was insured for £3OO in the Atlas office and the machinery for £2,500 in the Eagle j office.
