The Matson Navigation Company announces changes fn the names of the vessels formerly belonging to the American-Australian-Orient Line. The Dewey will become the Golden State, the West Carmona will be the Golden Fleece, the West Cajoot will be the Golden Beard, the West Calera will be the Golden Harvest, the West Conob will be the Golden Eagle, the West Elcajon will be the Golden Kauri, the West Nivaria will be the Golden Coast, and the West Togus will he the Golden Forest.—A. and N.Z.

* A cablegram from Washington on February 19 stated:—The Shipping Board has accepted bids for the sale of the Pacific steamers. Altogether 39 vessels have been sold. The Matson Navigation Company and the American-Hawaiian Steamship Company bought the 21 ships of the American-Australian-Orient Bine with a joint bid of £396,350. Mr. X. D. Dawson, on behalf of a new corporation to be formed, bought the Oregon and Oriental Line, 11 ships, for £213,000. The Tacoma Oriental Company bought the American-Oriental Mail Line, of seven ships, for £139,380. The bidders agreed to operate the vessel for five years. They will pay 25 per cent, of the purchase price on delivery and 10 per centfl each year for Th years, with interest at 41 per cent, on the unpaid balances.
