TAUMARUNUI NOTES FAREWELL TO MINISTER A large number of friends and m mbers of the Taumarunui Methodist Church assembled on the occasion of a farewell social given to the Rev. L. A. Brooks, who has been transferred to another parish. Mr. A. E. Tomlinson was at the organ, and the following items were contributed: “Love’s Old Song,” Mrs. Stamp; “Good Company,” Mr. George; “In the Garden of To-morrow,” Miss Dawson; “Land of Hope and Glory.” Miss Stamp. Mr. G. A. Stanton, who presided, presented Mr. Brooks with a tea set, and expressed the circuit’s best wishes for the future success of the recipient and his bride-to-be. Other speakers were Mr. G. Sherson. country districts; Mrs. Hardman (women’s guild), and Mr. Coulson (Taumarunui circuit). The women handed rou 11 a delicious supper. FOR BARXARDO’S HOMES Mr. W. Hughes, manager of the Bank of Australasia in Taumarunui, has accepted the position of local treasurer to the Dr. Barnardo Homes’ Fund, and the following women have been ar>pointed as collectors: Mrs. J. E. Ward, Mrs. C. A. Boles, Mrs. S. B. Reed, and Mrs. W. J. Melrose. Mr. Hughes will forward all moneys collected to the proper authorities in England. To keep blankets fresh on the guest bed, make white muslin covers for the top end, about ten inches or so in depth. As it is not always convenient to wash blankets, these may be slipped on and simply tacked on. This will' ensure freshness and cleanliness, as one cover can be quickly slipped off and another put in. When a rubber or waterproof apron becomes torn it can be used to line a gay cretonne beach bag in which to carry wet bathing costumes and towels. A piece of felt placed beneath the legs of the sewing machine diminishes noise, lessens the vibration and helps the user of the machine, especially on straight wo-rk.
