MAURICE MOSCOVITCH
BOX PLANS NOW OPEN There are many tense scenes in “The Ringer,” which is the first of the Edgar Wallace dramas, well constructed and most capably interpreted, to be presented by the specially-selected J. C. Williamson Dramatic Company, headed by the noted actor. Maurice Moscovitch, opening at His Majesty’s on Saturday. From first to last the interest of the audience is held, and as j the drama unfolds, sensational dev el- ! opments follow, the denouement he- j ing startling and quite original. Moscovitch, as Maurice Meister, the j scheming solicitor who seeks to spread his evil influence over the daring criminals and furtive thieves of the London underworld, and who lives in deadly fear of “The Ringer” (whose mysterious death has been reported from Sydney), gives one of the best characterisations ever seen in this part of the world. He is supported by a first-class company, including the noted London actor, Patric Cur wen, who was specially engaged in London by Sir George Tallis (J. C. Williamson, Ltd.), to play the part of Police Divisional Surgeon Dr. Lomond, one of the most interesting characters in this notable play. Another able performance is that of Nat Madison, who gives a wonderfully realistic portrayal of the part of Samuel Hac-kitt, an ex-convict who possesses a rich vein of humour; Miss Mary MacGregor, who plays the exacting part of Cora Ann Milton; Miss Bertha Riccardo, as Mary Lenley; Alexander Sarner, who appears as Central Detective-Inspector Bliss; Reginald Newson, who plays the part of Divisional Detective Inspector Wemburv, D. 5.0.; George Blunt, as the humorous Station-Sergeant Carter: Leslie Donaghey, as Benny; Hal Percy, as Colonel Walford, C. 8., Assistant Commissioner of Police: and Miss Kiore King (a New Zealand ! girl), who has made very rapid progress; J. B. Atholwood. Richard Webs- | ter, Reginald Robinson, and Raymond I Lawrence.
