TO-DAY’S PLAY

Press Association. DUNEDIN, To-day. When the Australians took the field this morifing for the third day’s play in the second Test ideal weather was again experienced. The wicket was dry, showing signs of wear and the outfield was in fair order. Lowry, 14, and James, 1, resumed batting. McNamee opened, two coming off the over. Lowry brought the 100 up with a crisp boundary shot and James scored three with a sweet shot through slips. McNamee bowled

from the other end, his second ball dismissing James, who snicked it to Richardson in the slips. Score, 110 — 6—5. Lowry sent Grimmett twice to the boundary, successively. With shots all round the wicket, Lowry brought his score to 30 in quick time. McGirr opened confidently, reaching 10 by beautifully cutting McNamee to the boundary, bringing 140 up. Blackie and Grimmett were both keeping the batsmen quiet, but Lowry had brought his score to 49, when he snicked one to Oldfield off Grimmett, after giving a particularly bright display. Score, 148—7—49. Grimmett’s next over saw McGirr easilv stumped by Oldfield. Score. 153—9—12. Badcock had a short stay, adding a couple, when he poked one up to Oldfield off Blackie. Score, 153—9—2. Reade and Dickinson were the last two, and the end came in Blackie’s next over when Reade sent one up to Hippax, near the boundary. New Zealand were all out for 154.
