FIRE IN BRISBANE.—A fire oroke out in a motor-body shop, owned by Peels, Ltd., in South Brisbane. Chassis material and completed cars valued at .£40,000 were destroyed.—A. and N.Z. ACQUITTED OF MURDER.—Ernest A. Kleinert was acquitted at Melbourne on a charge of murdering Mrs. Sampson at Mitcham on January 9. —A. and N.Z. N.S.W. AERIAL DERBY.—The New South Wales aerial derby, flown over a course of 42 miles, was won by Flying-Officer Mulrooney, in 19 minutes.—A. and N.Z. FORTUNE OF £ 28,265. —Princess Lowenstein-Wertheim, the victim of the transatlantic flight of August 31, left a fortune of £28,265. She died intestate and letters of administration have been granted to her sister, Lady -Mary Savile.—A. and N.Z. RAGE.”—An indignant outburst by the War Veterans’ Patriotic Society has been registered against the proposal of the Louvain University authorities to delete from the inscription °n the building Cardinal Mercier’s words describing how Teutonic rage destroyed the university.—A. and N.Z. JTALV AND EDUCATION. —Th e Italian Cabinet has issued a decree forbidding organisations for the instruction of boys and girls unless they are affiliated with the National Boy Scouts °f Girl Guides. All others must be dissolved within one month. —A- and N.Z. RESCUE IN DESERT.—A dramatic rescue in mid-desert was effected by the crew of an Imperial air liner. In Tesponse to a wireless call it descended a nd picked up and rushed to hosiptal at Bagdad a resident of that city named Abbosh. He had been seriouslyt bounded by rebels who had raided a uiotor convov. Abbosh is now recovering.—A. and N.Z. TO POLE BV Alß—Sweeping superstitions aside, the Italian airman, Commandant Nobili, proposes to leave in the airship Italia for the 2*orth Pole on Friday, April 13.
