SPEED-BOAT REGATTA

WHAU CREEK RACING Fast turning was a feature of the speed-boat regatta held by the New Zealand Power-Boat Association at the Whau Creek on Saturday. The water was smoother, with few* ripples, and helped the boats to put up good times in all races. A novelty item on the programme was the outboard motor relay race. Three teams of two competed. The course lay round a mark a quarter oi a mile downstream and back to the starting point. Here a stick was given to the other boat, which then traversed the same course. Through some mistake the wrong mark was taken and the race had to tee run again. Only one competitor, the Lady Margaret, appeared on the starting mark for the fast cruiser handicap, which was abandoned. During the Speed-boat Handicap, the Fleetwing Junior broke down at the home turn in the third round. The engine was restarted just as the Bonze was passing, and for nearly a whole lap both speed-boats raced side by side. The attendance at Saturday’s regatta was only about half as large as at th' ot« on February 18. There wen about 200 spectators. The outboard motor-boats showed great consistency, and raced well throughout. The officials were: Judge, Mr. A M. Wilson: starters. .Messrs. W. D. Ross, A. J. Collings and S.
