VETERANS AT CRICKET

REUNION AT BIRKDALE Keen interest was taken in a cricket match at Birkdale on Saturday afternoon. when the Waitemata Old Boya* cricket team, veterans of 30 years ago, comprising players from Birkenhead, Xorthcote. Birkdale. and Glenfield, and one player, Mr. R. Md’lymont, aged 71, tried their skill against th© Birkdale Cricket Club. Th© Old Players’ team was as follows: Mr. J. P. McPtaail (capU. C. Moller, H. Stewart. J. R. McPhail, L. Moller, F. A. Osmond, W. Hazlewood, A. Pladfield. PL Webb, R. McClymont, C. Arblaster, and T. Sheppard, who acted as umpire. The Birkdale team comprised E. Masters, R. Sheppard. D. Mayall, E. France, B. Ireland, L. Cooper, 11. Sheppard, G. Collins, B. Cosnett. A. Davis. The Birkdale team batted first and after 1* hours’ play scored 151. Cooper making 62 not out. when he declared. Afternoon tea. provided by Mesdamen Cooper and Sheppard, was then parts ken of. On resuming. Mr. McClymont was cheered on taking the but. but when he had made 2 he had the bad luck to be run out. After about an liour .4 play the light began to fail. At six o’clock stumps were drawn, with the i last two men still in. Thp total was j then 92. It is hoped to make the match an annual event.
