STEAMER A LOSS.—AII hopes of salving the coastal steamer Merimbula, which is ashore at Abraham’s Bosom, near Jervis Bay, have been abandoned. —A. and N.Z. WARATAHS HOME. —The members of the Waratah Rugby team were enthusiastically welcomed home by a large gathering of Rugby supporters when they arrived at Sydney yesterday on board the Aorangi.—A. and N.Z. NURSE CAVELL FILM. —After having witnessed a private screening of Cavell film ‘•Dawn” the Theatre Ccmmittee of the London County Council decided to recommend its release, on the condition that the shooting of a German soldier in the execution scene is deleted from the film. * —A. and N.Z.-Sun. WILD REICHSTAG FIGHT. —More than 100 members of the Reichstag were involved in a free light in the Chamber. A Communist hurled a missile at the rostrum at which a Socialist was speaking. The Socialists made a wild rush and overwhelmed the Communists, two of whom were seriously injured.—A. and N.Z. BECKETTS FINED.—The proprietors of the Sydney newspaper, Becketts Budget,” were yesterday fi ned the maximum penalty of £2O for selling an obscene publication. For the defence it was Pleaded that the articles concerned in the charges were merely expositions of vice and that no restriction should be Placed upon the Press in exposing wrongdoers.—A. and N.Z. TRUBY KING.—Sir Truby King, "ho attended a Royal party at Buckingham Palace, was asked by the King to remain after the conclusion, when His Majesty conversed with him for bait an hour on the subject of child welfare. The King displayed keen interest in the movement and said that while maternity mortality was so high there was still much work to do. —A. and N-ff.
