Australia Second To America In Movie Theatres
Latest statistics show that Australia, in proportion of population, ranks next to America in motion picture theatres. America has U 5,000 cinemas, xcith about 11,000,000 * eats, or 53 per thousand people. Australia has )) seats per thousand of population (says an exchange). The whole of Europe has only 22,000 theatres , with 9,000,000 seats, or 20 for every 1,000 people. Africa and Asia, with their huge populations. have only 1.5 and six-tenths of one seat respectively, for each 1,000 persons. It is estimated that £5)3,000.000 is invested in the worlds cinemas, America accounting for 62.6 of the total. Australia pays America approximately £SOO,OOQ annually in film hire, through the various exchanges which have been estab- i lished.
