SOUND AND CINEMA
SYNCHRONISING DEVICE REASONABLE COST Vocafilm, latest development in synchronising sound with pictures, will be placed on the general market shortly. It is controlled jointly by Educational Films and Vocafilm Corporation of America. A simple and economical Vocafilm device will be offered for sale in 36 exchanges in the United States and Canada. The new device, developed under patents issued in 1924 and perfected by a staff of technical experts, is said to be so easy to operate as to be practically “fool proof.” The cost, according to David R. Hochreich, of the Vocafilm Corporation, is far below that of any other synchronising machine. It is said also that the upkeep is negligible. Under these circumstances the smalltown picture houses will be able to offer perfectly synchronised pictures and sound. Hochreich says: “While this information may seem of little importance to more sophisticated patrons of the big ‘movie palaces,’ it is of the utmost importance to the vast majority of picturegoers throughout the land. It means that sound, synchronised with pictures, which has heretofore been confined to the biggest and richest theatres, will now be available to almost any theatre. “The ordinary picture house in the smallest town will be able, at a cost that it can well afford, to present the same high type of synchronised pictures and music offered by first-run houses in the large cities.”
