DEATH OF TED McNAMARA
FAVOURITE FOX STAR News has been received that the splendid comedian, Ted McNamara, who clowned his way through many Fox productions, and proved so popular as the lad who "razzed” in “What Price Glory?” recently died in Hollywood. McNamara was born in Melbourne, Australia, travelling all over the world with Pollard’s Lilliputian Opera Company. He landed in New York in 1918, and his first stage role in that city was in “Irene.” Broken periods of activity followed, then came his biggest hit, playing in “Battling Butler," where he was cast as a “wise guy” fight trainer. It was while characterising in that role that Raoul Walsh saw him. Walsh went specially to New York to choose his cast for "What Price Glory?” and McNamara attracted his attention so much that negotiations were quickly made. Following his highly successful characterisation as Private Kiper in that film, McNamara was signed to a long-term contract. It is reported that he caught a severe chill, which developed into pneumonia, and caused his untimely death. McNamara was 36 years old.
