GASTON LEROUX FILMED
“THE WIZARD” Promise is given that the Fox production, “The Wizard,” based on Gaston Leroux’s sensational novel, “Baiaoo,” will be one of the most outstanding ever screened. The story is out of the usual, and is reported to be the last word in thrillers. A scientist, Paul Corilois, has been waiting years to revenge himself upon Judge Webster. who condemned his son to the electric chair. Coriolis obtains an ape, and transforms him into a half human by means of gland grafting. The ape is trained to distinguish the doctor’s enemies by sense of smell. Judge Webster and his daughter spend the night at Coriolis's home, and it is here that he plots to kill them. Edmund Lowe as a young reporter, sent to the house to clear up murder mysteries, frustrates the scientist’s attempts, and succeeds in winning for himself a lovely bride. Leila Hyams is cast as the girl, and Gustave von Seyffertiz plays Coriolis. Secret panels, sliding doors, uncanny forms, blood-curdling noises and hair-raising events keep the attention at. fever-pitch throughout. Comic relief is provided by two negro servants whose antics are hilarious.
