EMPIRE
“TUMBLING RIVER” A plot of villainy and intrigue woven around a gang of the most notorious cattle-rustlers in the West is the theme of the new Tom Mix production for Fox Films, “Tumbling River,” which is now being shown at the Empire Theatre. A lair of evil and thievery far back in the rugged places of the mountains, by the light of a flickering lire, is where these sinister men plan all of their deeds to fleece the country of its finest cattle and thoroughbred horses. Around such a menace this blazing Mix story of the West was laid, 'cringing in all of the high lights for which the West is noted —hazardous rides, hard fighting, and quick shooting, and Tom enfolds to his public an entire repertoire of new thrillers. On the same programme “The Missing Link,” starring Syd Chaplin, is being shown. Evidently William Powell is trying to set another record for the number of pictures in which he has appeared in a single year. Every week or two appears to find him assigned to a new role. He recently played the heavy in “Feel My Pulse.” At present he >• appearing as an underworld gai f leader in the new Beery-Hatton comedy. “Partners in Crime.” “Partners in Crime” is for release in New Zealand during 1928.
