EASTER CRICKET

RAILWAYMEN’S MATCH MYERS CUP CONTEST On Good Friday and Easter Saturday a match will be played on the Domain between the representative railway teams of Petone C Wellington) and Newmarket Railway Workshops for possession of the Myers Cup, the principal cricket trophy so far as the New Zealand rail waynren are concerned. This trophy was presented for annual competition by the late Sir A. M. Myers during- his term as Minister of Railways. The cup was first competed for in 1912 between Petone and Newmarket teams, the latter being victorious by one wicket after a most exciting finish. Hillside was defeated the following year, and Petone was also beaten again, strangely enough, by one wicket. Newmarket lost the cup three years ago, but last year won comfortably, and is at present in possession of the much coveted trophy* The Petone team will arrive here on Good Friday morning, and the match will commence at one o’clock on the wicket in front of the Domain pavilion. The Newmarket team is a fairly good combination. The opening batsmen* will probably be A. Gedye and J. Elliott, who always open for their respective clubs, Ellerslie and Green Lane, in the senior grade of the Suburban Association. The teams will appear in these columns on Thursday next.
