VAGRANT’S PREFERENCE OVERSEAS WORK REFUSED Thomas Weir's affection for New Zealand is so great that ha refuses employment that will take him outside the country. He pleaded suilty at the Police Court to-day to a charge of being idle and disorderly. Sub- Inspector McCarthy said th it accused had been hanging about the waterfront and was unable to obtain work on a coastal vessel because of default in union dues. He had been offered a job on a Home boat, but refused to accept it. The Magistral. Mr. W. R- McKea n I suppose that’s because you would be too long away from hotels. Accused: That was not my idea. The Magistrate: Your list suggests that it is. Weir was sentenced to one month' Imprisonment.
