Churchmen Approve New Prayer Book
FEWER SUPPORTERS NOW By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. noon. LONDON, Thursday. THE Lower House of the Convocation of Canterbury endorsed the new Prayer Book by 126 votes to 48, compared with 168 to 22 last year. The Lower House of the Convocation of York endorsed it by 50 votes to 19, compared with 68 to 10.
Former supporters of +he Book who now oppose it, protested about the changes concerning the reservation of the Sacraments, fasting, and the powers of parochial councils. They also protested that Convocation was allowing itself to he influenced by the House of Commons. Book passing the Commons, its adversaries replied that no attention should be paid to what may happen in Parliament.
Breakers for the Book said they viewed with alarm the effect upon the Commons if the majorities within the Convocation diminished.
