NEW REGENT

DIVING CONTEST AND CLARA BOW What is unquestionably the most novel programme ever staged at any theatre in the Dominion begins at the New Regent to-day. In addition to the strong pictorial programme which will be screened continuously throughout the day for one week, the enterprising Regent management is staging every evening an exceptional stage novelty. An enormous concrete diving pool, 22ft by 9ft, with Bft of water, has been constructed on the Regent stage. The water will be made tepid by a special system of electrical heaters. A diving tower and spring-board, and a beautiful stage setting, will be the frame to a ladies’ diving contest which will begin to-night. Separate heats of different girls will be dived each night, and points will be allotted by three judges appointed by the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association. Each competitor will have one trial running dive, and then one neat header and one running dive, points being given for deportment, flight, entry and recovery. The three firsts from each heat will dive again next week in the semi-finals and finals. J. C. Williamson's are awarding the three winners gold medals, and a silver cup will be given to the winning club. Great enthusiasm is being evinced among the clubs. Entries can still be received. There is no charge or any restriction —all ladies, amateurs only, are eligible. Entry forms are available at theatre box office or from the secretaries of the Auckland Swimming Clubs. Secretaries will be at their respective baths on Sunday to receive lastminute entries. Although Paramount has adopted the famous slogan of the Royal NorthWest Mounted Police, ‘Get Your Man.” as the title of their latest starring picture for Clara Bow, the production has nothing, to do with this section of the world. The scene of the picture, which will be the chief pictorial attraction, is France, where the entire action takes place. The story is of an American girl, who is out to “set h*=»r mar.' even

though he has been betrothed to a French girl since he was five years of age. The picture is one of comedy situations which give Miss Bow the same opportunity to score heavily as did “It,” “Rough House Rosie,” and “Hula.” Jack Duffy in “Scared Pink” is a screaming short comedy, while an interesting Regent Review of world events, an Australasian Gazette, and an Inkwell Imps cartoon, will also be screened. Leslie Harvey will play "The Rosary” and “The Waters of Minnetonka,” and the Regent Operatic Orchestra under the baton of Maurice Guttridge will play “Italians in Algeria,” by Rosini. and a special selected musical programme. The management advises that booking for the exceptional season is very heavy.
