A quiet time had marked the operations of the Matapuna Ratepayers’ Association during the past year, said the chairman, Mr. J. Carrington, at the annual meeting on Wednesdayevening. The secretary, Mr. M. J. Herlihy, presented the balance sheet, which showed a gratifying credit. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. J. Carrington (re-elected); vice-presi-dents, Messrs. D. Herlihy and P. O’Shea; secretary, Mr. M. J. Herlihy; auditor, Mr. P. Meredith; committee, Messrs. W. Ward, K. Krebs, P. Pickin, L. Rickards and G. S. Steadman. * * *
The Country Party’s organiser, Mr. R. Feisst, is at present in the Waimarino electorate, and is advocating the policy of those he represents. Meetings are being held at all of the most important centres.
Music is not the’only thing that the Taumarunui Boys’ Band is capable of producing well, for the team contains a number of tried and promising yoUng footballers.
At a meeting of. the band and sympathisehs, Mr. J. Brown presided in the absence of the Mayor, Mr. G. E. Manson, who sent an apology. It was resolved to form a Band Football Club, and to affiliate with the Taumarunui Club. Officials will be: Coach. Mr. S. R. Dryland; secretary, Mr. Jas. Wells; captain, Mr. Frank Woodmass, jun.; delegate to the union, Mr. G. S. Manson; vice-captain, Mr. Ron. Robinson.
Mr. J. Blacklock, organiser for the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was in Taumarunui this week, and a well-at-tended meeting of farmers resolved to revive the branch of the union that existed here some years ago. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. J. McLeod; secretary, pro tern, Mr. A. W. King; provisional committee, Messrs. L. S. Ford, A. Kinnell, J. Worrall. G. A. Stanton, J. McLeod, H. E. D. Robinson and A. W. King. Mr. Blacklock fully explained the objects of the union, and it was resolved to give the farmers’ policy every possible support.
In the successful sextette, from a total of 42 candidates who sat for the Main Highways Board’s overseer’s examination, was Mr. L. Oldham, foreman to the Taumarunui Borough Council.
That its three graded teams (senior, junior and third) held practically all the leading positions at the close of the last football season, was mentioned by the president, Mr. W. Miles, in his report at the annual meeting of the Taumarunui Football Club. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. F. Smith; president, Mr. W. Miles; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Thomas, B. Crane, W. Ford, W. Girvin, M. Poihipi. C. Hartnett, N. Thomas and A. Sandel; secretary and treasurer. Mr. M. Sarah: management committee, Messrs. R. Ross, G. Cross, G. Robinson, E. Hislop, R. Phillips and B. Marker; social committee, Messrs. G. Robinson, B. Harker, R. Carr. M. Poihipi and D. Finlay; auditor, Mr. W. McWatters; senior coach. Mr. N. Thomas; junior coach, Mr. G. Robinson; senior selection committee, Messrs. W. Miles, GRobinson and the captain; delegates to the union, Messrs. W. Miles, J. H Lynskey and G. Robinson.
