OFFENDING CIRCULARS
AUTHOR FINED “ELIMINATION” METHOD Edwin Willeson Warren wa* fined £25 at the Pciice Court yesterday on a charge of sending out a circular offering advice on the result of horse-racing. The evidence against Warren was heard three weeks ago. the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, reserving his decision. Warren sent out circulars with a detailed description of what he described as the “elimination” method of backing horses. The magistrate held that it was Illegal to send circulars offering advice on horse race results, even though the bets were made on the totalisator. The purchaser of the defendant’s system would not be able to be present at all those race meetings necessary to make it a success. Therefore he must bet either with a bookmaker or have agents in each town. Both of these were illegal.
