j BOWLERS’ COMPETITION INTER-SECTION PLAY Inter-section games in the champion pairs tournament of the Auckland Bowling Association were played at the Mount Eden green yesterday under fine weather conditions. The greens were in perfect order, and some close and interesting games were witnessed. When the third round was reached, only two two-lifers, Jones and Bremner, were left, and after a very even game, which resulted in a tie, an extra head was played. Jones won, and was thus the only two-lifer left. In the fourth round played this morning Ryan and Bremner put up a great game. Bremner early went into the lead and on the 16th head the score was 23 to 12 in his favour. However, Ryan made a great recovery and eventually finished up only two down. In the gam© between Pearce and Haslam, the former took the lead ; from the start and was never really troubled, ultimately winning bv 27 to 21. THE FIFTH ROUND In the fifth round Clarke and Bremner (West End) met Johnston alndJones (Stanley). Pearce (Otahuhu) had a bye. The first head saw Bremner, when lying two down, drive into the head, leaving Jones 3 up. In the next head Johnston drew the shot, which the skips failed to alter. In the third head Clarke drew the shot and Bremner added another. Clarke drew a toucher on the fourth head, which Johnston displaced. Clarke then trailed the kitty for three, Johnston drove the shot bowl out, and Jones drew the shot. On the fifth head Johnston lay two, which Bremner could not displace the score then being Jones 7, Bremner 2. On the sixth head Clarke drew a toucher with his' first bowl, and Jones could not alter the head. Bremner, in tidying to improve the position, shifted kitty and gave Jones two. When lying one down on the seventh, Johnston drew a beauty, thus getting the shot, Jones putting in another. Bremner displaced both with a drive and lay two up. With his last bowl he drew another, making the score: Jones S, Bremner 5. Clarke made three on the next head, but Jones drove out the shot howl, leaving his pair two down. Bremner promoted a short bowl of Jones, and was 1 one up at the finish. The ninth head saw Johnston draw right on kitty, Clarke displacing it and lyingtwo. Bremner improved this with a good draw, and brought the score to nine all. “ BREMNER GOES AHEAD Splendid bowling by the leads on the 40tli head left- Jones two up. Bremner drove out both counters and Jones failed t<* retrieve the position. Johnston drew the shot with his second bowl on the next head, and added another with his third. Clarke tried to kill the head with his last, but missed, and Bremner cleaned out all Johnston's bowls and lay two. Jones drew a beauty with his first bowl and added a second. Bremner drove out the lead’s shots and lay two. The score then was Bremner 13, Jones 9. On the twelfth head Clarke threw 'a short jack and quickly got the green to leave his skip two up. Jones rested on the shot bowl to score, but Bremner with a good shot, carried the jack. Clark© was picking the short heads well to give his skip good position, but Jones drew a beauty, carrying the jack for two. The score was Bremner 14 Jones 11. Good drawing shots by both leads opened up an interesting fourteenth head, when Jones wrested out the shot bowl. Bremner drove and scored one. In tljp next head the Stanley pair were two up when the skips went down, and Bremner opened the head with a drive, and later drew two pulling the score Up to 17—11 in his favour. The sixteenth was an interestmg head, the Stanley skip trailing kitty but carrying itr to his opponent. The next shot knocked a wing bowl of Bremner’s in to score.
