ELLERSLIE TRIALS NO FAST TIMES RECORDED Not a great deal of interest was taken in training operations this morning at Ellerslie, although proceedings in general are becoming more lively. Several candidates left for Whangarei to-day, and trainers who claim engagements at the Easter meeting here were not anxious to put their charges against the watch. Number one grass provided good going,’ while the course proper (two trestles out), was not much in favour this morning. COURSE PROPER Salamander, who has been restricted to easy tasks since racing at Pukekohe, covered a mile in 1.49. The Fox got through a working gallop over five furlongs in 1.10, and appeared anxious to increase the paoe soon after the start. NUMBER ONE GRASS In view of her engagement in the Waipu Handicap at Whangarei, Ballymoy 11. was given a task extending to a round. She went well throughout, and was timed to cover the distance in 1.58 3-5. The best five furlongs of the morning was credited to the liomeo gelding Parfait Armour, who covered the distance in 1.6. He was not bustled at any stage, and, maintaining an even pace throughout, held a lot in reserve at the finish. The two-year-old colt Bulolo has usually sprinted a few furlongs, but his task this morning -was extended to six furlongs. He was not bustled at any part of the trial and finished up ia 1.19 1-5. There was not much between Avon Court and Justify at the end of five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. The latter has shown a good deal of improvement in his latest efforts. The two-year-olds, Tea Money and Jolly Money, moved over half a mile in 53 2-5, but they were not hurried and were practically on terms at the finish. Blue Spear, who has shown a de- j cided improvement in his essays lately, | was going much better than Pompieus j at the end of an easy five furlongs in | 1.7. Archibald moved evenly over a round the time taken up being 2.3 1-5. He is in excellent condition for hurdle events at EasterWinsome Boy and Huephano were partnered over five furlongs and were

timed to take 1.6 3-5. Neither was unduly hurried. Nothing improved upon the time recorded for six furlongs by Welkne and Storm Fiend. Jumping off smartly from the disc, they finished up with little between them in 1.18 3-5. Storm Fiend, who had the advantage in the weights, appeared to be going much better than his companion. Princess Ronnie was punched out to traverse a round in 1.52 1-5. She is looking and doing well. Master Clements and Ossian were together in a working gallop over six furlongs, the last five taking 1.9. The former proved to be much too good. Taaneriri and Fungus were trotted round to the three furlongs post and spurted home from there in 38. Nola Night was slightly ahead of Kauri Park at the end of six furlongs, the last five being run in 1.8 3-5. Kamehameha, who was allowed to secure a break of several lengths on Mon Star, ran half a mile in 55. Mon Star, who was close up at the finish, would probably have recorded much faster time.

Hone Heke and Royal Trek, were not on a time-making mission over five furlongs. The former is now looking exceptionally well as the result of recent racing. THE JUMPERS Mountain Guide (L. Dulieu), essayed to jump a couple of the pony hurdles. The first obstacle was negotiated cleanly, if carefully, but at the second fence he failed to rise and went straight through it. Sea Comet (C. Hastings) gave a pleasing exhibition over the sod, double and stonewall. He jumped cleanly throughout. RACING IN ENGLAND RESULT OF LINCOLNSHIRE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright.
