FIRE AT AVONDALE
HOUSE BADLY DAMAGED Two rooms of a five-roomed house at 178 Great North Road, were gutted by a fire which broke out a little after four o’clock this morning. Quick work by the Avondale brigade saved the remaining roojns from serious damage. The house is owned by Mrs. O. G. Avery. Her husband was away, and last evening she had gone to stay for the night with relatives so that there was no one left in the house. A milkman, J. Potts, noticed the blaze on bis morning round and gave the alarm, but the flames had a good hold when the brigade arrived and it was not until after half an hour’s strenuous work that the danger was past.
