ORAKEI-KORAKO ROAD

NO IMPROVEMENT LIKELY A request to the Minister of PublicWorks that the road from Atiamuri to Orakei-Korako be considerably improved to encourage tourist traffic, was recently made by the New Zealand Tourist League. In reply, the Minister said that he considered the expense of extensive; improvements to the road was not warranted. He added that a roadman is periodically employed to carry out necessary maintenance work on the 10i miles of road concerned. Respecting another approach, formerly used by coaches, and branching from the Rotorua-Taupo Road, the Minister said that the trip was not deemed of sufficient interest to justify clearing the route and erecting bridges.
