In a letter to the Harbours’ Association, the Prime Minister said that the Government could not commence a coastal marine survey, and the work was not sufficiently urgent to demand immediate attention. Errors in surveys were widely known, and the work proposed would take 20 years, and cost £1,050,000, if it were to be of any value.
