NO KAURIS GROW ON KAURI POINT
BOARD’S LACK OF INTEREST Very little interest appears to be manifest in the administration of Kauri Point Domain, which overlooks one of the upper reaches of the Waitemata Harbour, and upon which, inappropriately enough, there is no evidence of kauri growth. The first meeting of the re-constituted Domain Board for this area, which was to have been held yesterday, lapsed through the absence of a quorum. The name Kauri Point is believed to have originated through the growth of kauri trees on th© point at one stage of this city's history, but this must have been in the very long ago, because the Commissioner of Crown Lands at Auckland, Mr. O. N. Campbell, can find none of it there now. Pinus insignis flourishes in profusion over a great part of the 100-acre reserve. The personnel of the board is made up of the Mayor of Auckland, the commissioner of Crown lands, the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, the Mayor of Birkenhead, and the chairman of the Waitemata County Council. The domain is cared for by 'an honorary caretaker.
