THE NEW VOGUE
LONGER HAIR AND DRESSES BACK TO OLD DANCES Longer haid and longer skirts were the features of the Pytchley hunt ball, held at the Town Hall, Northampton. The fashion thus set is a notable example in the shires. There were 450 guests, and among the women were many whose hair was of its natural length, and many others who had abandoned the severity of close crops or the shingle for the more luxurious curls and waving tresses. The brilliance of diamante dresses sparkled amid the red and white hunt colours of the men. The scheme of decoration was beautifully carried out throughout. The drapings were in the hunt colours; so, too, were the tapestries on the seats, the colours on the walls, and even the shades on the lights. The reversion to old tunes and to a number of older dances was noticeable, and altogether the ball was most remarkable not for its novelties, but for its return to older and perhaps happier traditions of music, dancing, and the hunt.
