“WOULD BE SUICIDE”
TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT AT PRESENT A WEATHER WARNING By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. BERLIN, Wed. It would be suicide if Herr Koehl started now on Ms transatlantic flight, say the weather experts at the Hamburg observatory; but they refuse to issue official forecasts because they wish to steer clear of anything like that, lest they give the impression that they are influencing or assisting Koehl. An earlier message from London said: — It now seems likely that German aviators will forestall their French rivals in the bid for transatlantic flight honours. Herr Koehl, the pilot of the Bremen, now at Baldonnell, Ireland, says that he and his companions, Baron Gunther Von Huehnefeld, and the mechanic Spindler, will leave on their attempt to fly to America early if the weather is favourable. The baron says he is confident they will succeed. FEVERISH FRENCHMEN French naval airmen are feverishly speeding up preparations for transatlantic flights. Two seaplanes, to be piloted by Captain Guilbrand and Lieutenant Paris respectively, will fly via the Azores. The Brequet Company is arranging for MM. Coste and Lebrix to attempt a direct transatlantic flight. Also MM. Corbu and Givon are to make a new m a Farman Bluebird with a radius of 4,250 miles.—A. and N.Z.
