VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY
NOTED EXPLORER VISITS AUCKLAND HERMIT ISLANDS NEXT “I intend # to pick up a cutter at Rabaul, New Britain, and have a look round the .Hermit Islands and some of the lesser-known islands near that group,” said Mr. D. S. Wylie, who arrived in Auckland on the Marama yesterday. lI,YR. WYLIE’S last exploit was a motor journey through' the trackless deserts of Central Australia. There his greatest difficulty was the lack of water. Rain had not fallen for two years. Mr. Wylie holds out no hopes for the cultivation of the deserts, where any animals, even if they survive, succumb to starvation. Mr. J. H. Curie, author of “The Shadow Show” 1 and “This "World of Ours,” will accompany Mr. Wylie on his trip to the Hermit Islands. While coming over from Sydney on the Marama, Mr. Wylie gave a cinema entertainment, showing many interesting views of his Australian explorations.
