FIRE AT WAIHI

COTTAGE DESTROYED WOMAN’S CLOSE CALL (From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, To-day. A two-roomed cottage in Consioils Street. Waihi, was totally destroyed by fire at about 11 o’clock on Saturday night. A faulty fireplace was the cause of the outbreak, the occupier, Mrs. Anne Temple, having to suppress a mild outbreak earlier in the evening. Having thrown a bucket of water on the fire, Mrs. Temple retired to bed, thinking that everything was all right, but evidently the smouldering embers took fresh life and enveloped the building. Mrs. Temple woke up in a choking condition, and had difficulty in escaping from the building. The furniture and contents were not insured, and as far as is known the house, which was owned by Mr. W. K. TVright, of Onehunga, carried no insurance.
