£490 STOLEN FROM RAILWAY OFFICES
STAFF’S WAGES TAKEN THIEF LEAVES NO TRACES Press Association . CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. : A sensational burglary is reported to have occurred in the railway goods office in Moorhouse Avenue during Friday night., £490 being taken from the strong room, apparently by the use of keys. The sum represented wages drawn for a portion of the railway staff. Secrecy marks the whole affair, as the money was in the strong room when the staff left on Friday evening. Next morning the strong room was still locked, hut 'the money had gone. During the night a watchman visited the offices every two hours and saw or heard nothing suspicious. This is the second burglary that has occurred in the same place in the last five years. It is believed that some unauthorised person possesses duplicate keys.
