PLUNKET DAY APPEAL
STREET COLLECTION ON FRIDAY At a Plunket Day street collection next Fridpy, every feffort will be made to assist the society. The annual expenditure in the Auckland Plunket District is now £2,300, which amount, in addition to supporting headquarters and suburban offices, pays the salaries of the 13 nurses in the district. In February, advice and service was given in Auckland to 7,658 visitors. More than 100 women visited the antenatal clinic, and attendance is increasing to such an extent that increased accommodation is becoming necessary. Plunket nurses paid 1,327 visits to homes during the month. Rose-decorated stalls will be built at many vantage points in the city and suburbs, and, with the willing co-op-eration of the public, it is hoped that a substantial amount will be raised. The latest jewellery is made of sequins! A necklace and bracelet worn with a beige afternoon dress was made by stringing together large sequins iq exactly the same manner as one threads ordinary beads—by passing a thread through the centre hole. This made a flexible rope about the thickness of one’s little finger: a rope with an interesting metallic effect obtained by threading several inches with gold sequins and then several inches with silver.
