METHODIST ORPHANAGES
MATRONS APPOINTED At the quarterly meeting of the Board of Management of the Methodist Orphanages, over which the Rev. W. J. Elliott presided yesterday, applications were considered for the positions of matrons of the Wesley and Epworth Homes. Mrs. Armitage, who has been matron of both homes for eight years, had retired, and the board decided to appoint two officers to take her place. Miss Margaret S. Johnson, matron of a children’s shelter at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was appointed to the Wesley Home. Miss Coatman, who has been six years first assistant, was promoted to the senior position at Epworth. The board passed a resolution expressing its great appreciation of Mrs. Armitage’s services, and regretting her departure. With the exception of one vacancy for a boy at the Epsom home, the orphanages are full, there being 125 children accommodated. Potatoes will bake in half the time if they are allowed to stand in hot water for ten minutes before being put into the oven. When food becomes badly burned in the bottom of a saucepan remove as much as possible without scraping, then put the pan aside for two or three weeks. fflThe burnt food will have become so dry that it can be removed with little trouble.
